  1. 1)I think that elderly people can be healthy or unhealthy. But in any case, they should live with their families. This is the job of their children so as to repay them.
2)If i can design a special home for the elderly, i will paste some inspirational quotes on the walls, some games like chess for them to play, and of course, some comfortable sofa.
    3) It depends on the situation of that specific elderly; the background of them etc.

  2. 1) I think that elderly people should live with their family whether they are healthy or not. This is because if they have any medical conditions, a family member will be present to take care of them or if necessary, to bring them to seek medical attention.

    2) If I could design a special elderly home, I would introduce morning exercises for them because exercising will keep them healthy and less prone to falling sick. I will also have entertainment such performances and dance to keep them entertained.

    3) For healthcare I believe that the medical fee should be significantly reduced but not totally free of charge so subsidies will not need to increase and taxpayers will not have to pay increased tax. However, I think that nursing homes should not be free of charge so that it would discourage children from leaving their parents there. It is our job as children to take care of our parents regardless.

  4. 1)Personally, I feel that elderly people should live with their family members because this will give them a sense of belonging, making them feel that their past contributions or sacrifices for their children are appreciated and worthwhile. If they do not have any kids, then they should live in a community of elderly so that they are able to interact with people of their same age group. Still, proper care should be given to them by volunteers.
    2) If I could design a special home for the elderly, I would want to include a large swimming pool for them so that they are able to keep fit. The home should be of high technology for the convenience for them.
    3) Healthcare and nursing homes for them should be free of charge because the elderly obviously do not have any monthly income any longer. Though everyone is encouraged to save up for old age, I believe not everyone is able to set aside such a large amount of money.

  5. 1) We cannot dictate specifically how and where an elderly person should live. I think that whether it be in a special home or with family, that is their own personal choice and preference.
Personally though, I feel elderly people should be surrounded by loved ones. Although special homes can give lots of care and assistance, they are unable to give love, care and that sense of security that only families can give.
It is also beneficial because they can lean on each other for support and this can strengthen bonds as well.
I think that elderly people deserve and should be able to enjoy life after retirement. Although being elderly naturally means mood swings and changes in behaviour, they should try to refrain from exhausting who is ever is taking care of them too much as it can work both ways and have a negative effect on both sides.
In conclusion, it is the children's or grandchildren's job to take care of their elderly parents or grandparents and make sacrifices just as they were once taken care of.

  6. 1)Regardless of their health, I think they should live with their family. Especially when they are in poor health, love and care is what they need. If the family is in a condition that they must really send the elderly to the old folks' home, they should give a visit very frequently.
2)If I could design a special elderly home, I would get a lot of helpers to provide the elderly with all the love and attention they need. Having regular morning exercises is also a good idea. And I would make sure that they are both physically and mentally comfortable at the elderly home.
3)I think those should be charged according to the income of the family. Like Jacob has mentioned, more people would send their parents to the nursing home if the nursing homes become free of charge.

  7. 1)I feel that elderly people should live with their family. This is because this will make them feel loved and their health will not deterioriate so soon( living in an old folks' home may further worsen their health) . However, if their family members are too busy too care for them, they can put the old folks in a day care centre where there are many activities to occupy them. Moreover, they can mingle with other old folks and not feel so lonely. This will improve their mental and physical health.
    2) If I can design a special home for them, I will include facilities such as a mahjong room, an indoor soccer field, swimming pool and a hall. With the mahjong room, they can play mahjong and at the same time exercise their brain. Studies have shown that playing mahjong can keep the brain active and prevent dementia. The indoor soccer field is for them to play soccer regardless of the weather so that they can exercise and keep fit. This will also improve their feet and eye coordination. With the swimming pool, they can do different sort of exercises other than swimming in it like dancing in the pool. Not only will this keep them physically healthy, they can also have some fun while at it! The hall is for the old folks to play badminton or for a performance to be put up every fortnight to entertain the old folks.
3)I feel that healthcare and nursing homes for the old folks should not be made free. Subsidies may be provided as some old folks may not be able to afford the fees. If healthcare and homes for the aged are made free, the government will have to spend quite a substantial amount every year and this will greatly burden them. The government also may have to reduce their expenditure on education or the army as a result.

  8. 3) I think that whether or not nursing homes should be free or not depends on the 'income'. If the elderly were put in a home by their children, the stay in the home should be charged. If they were put there because their children were already passed away, and no one else was available to take care of them, then it should be free of charge. As to how much should be paid for those who can afford, they should look at the income of the family and charge them accordingly. This way, the system of paying will be fair. This is my opinion.

  9. 3)The fee of the nursing home should depend of mainly the background of the family. If the family is very poor, and unable to afford the cost for the home, it should be free-of-charge. However, for those who are able to afford, they will take it for granted that is free and this encourages them to put their parents in the home. If all family are like so, wouldn't all nursing home in SG be full?

Also, if they were free-of-charge, how are the nursing homes going to pay for the expenses their own? This means that the government would have to subsides and this isn't pratical.

Whatever it is, this is just what I think and can't change anything.

  10. 1) I think the elderly should live with their families because being with their families will give them warmth to continue on with their life and their family members can also help take care of their medical condition if the eiderly has one. Living with their family also makes the elderly happier.

  11. 1) i think that the elderly should live with their family members as they are old and unable to care for themselves anymore and if their family members are there with them, their family member are able to help them.

    2) i would place furnitures that are easy to reach and provide games that are usually played by the elderly. i would paint the room in bright colours so that it doesnt look too gloomy and depressing and maybe place a radio there too.

    3) i think that it should be free of charge as most elderly do not work anymore due to their health and are unable to provide for themselves.

  12. 1) I feel that the elderly should live in a place where they feel comfortable financially, emotionally and mentally. If an elderly person's children lack the medical expertise or time to properly take care of them, it is strongly advisable to place them in an old folks' home as their needs can be taken care of there, instead of having insufficient food, medication and or attention at home. However, one must also take into consideration the elderly person's mental and emotional stability. Some people might not be very accepting of being placed in an old folks' home. In the end, I feel that the decision lies with the elderly's family and the elderly in question as they are the ones who have to live with decision.

  13. 1. In my own point of view, I believe that elderly people should live with their children. It is only right that their children whom they have brought up since young would just do a little bit for them by supporting them with a roof over their head. This way, elderly people can live in peace as they would not have to worry about issues like bills to pay or to worry about being lonely. They can also help out at home by taking care of the kids when their parents are out at work.
    2. If I were to design a home for the elderly, I would locate his/her bed room on the ground floor where it is nearest to the toilet. This way, they would not have to walk up and down the stairs to go to their bedroom as their rate of mobility is declining. The toilet situated beside his/her bedroom would make it more convenient for them to go to.
    3. I feel that healthcare and nursing homes for the elderly should be free of charge. This is because I feel that the government should support these group of people as they can pass down useful knowledge and life experiences to the younger generation. Making healthcare & nursing homes free of charge can also be a gift of gratitude to them for bringing us up and nurturing us.

  14. 3. Yes and no. No, definitely, if their children are well capable of paying. It is their job to take care of their parents when they can no longer take care of themselves. This is to show gratitude to their parents for raising them. And knowing you have the ability to pay but yet pushing the responsibility of taking care of your own parents to the government and making them pay, is a very selfish act. No, maybe, if their children are not so well-to-do. Perhaps the government could provide some subsidy for such people? They may not be able to pay the full amount but they can pay part of it. And I feel that the rest of the amount should be paid by the government as it is also the government's job to take care of its citizens and provide them with financial support if they cannot afford something. Yes, definitely, if their children cannot afford it. There are poor people among us in our community that cannot even afford hospital bills. If nobody can help them, they only have the government left to turn to. If even the government will not help them, who will?

  15. 3. My opinion is that the organisation should check into the background of the elderly patient and should it be discovered that he/she has no family providing for him/her, the organisation should care for the elderly free of charge. However, if the patient has family that is taking care of his/her financial needs, they should pay as staff working at the homes have to be paid.

  16. 1.From my point of view, i think that the elderly should be living with their family members no matter what. This is only for those elderly with children. The elderly should be taken care of by their own children as they had been brought up by their parents so this is the time for them to show gratitude to their parents. For those elderly who are single with no family members, they should stay at the old folks home as their are able to be taken care of. At the old folks home they ar also able to makes friends, thus they will be able to live a fuller life.
2.I would set up a kindergarten beside the home. This will allow elderly to have another source of entertainment by visiting the children or getting the children to visit the elderly. Most elderly likes children, they will get more chances interacting with people and the children will also benenfit from it as they are able to practise their language skills.
3.I think that the healthcare and nursing homes need not be free of charge for the elderly. For those elderly with financial support from there should be require to pay. As for those elderly with no other family members and are not able to work get to receive healthcare and a place to stay in the nursing home for free.

  17. 1. Personally, i feel thatdespit being a possible bother to the family they are the parents of our parents. And are just as important to the family as we are. Thus throught their years of pain and hardship raising their children , they deserve a place with family to call home.

2.Up to standered medical facilities ,such as an in home nurse/doctor , dialysis station's and other health related facilities. A koi garden to relax their minds , no one is ever to old to admire nature's wonders and maybe even a mingling corner.

  18. Personally, I feel that Elderly people should live with their own flesh and blood, that is, their children. This is necessary because no matter what happens to the elderly, be it unhealthy whatsoever, the children who were brought up by them should take up and bear full responsibilities for the well-being of their parents. The family members of the elderly are strongly encouraged to live with the elderly regardless of any situation. Otherwise, where can the elderly possibly stay at? Old folks' home is definitely not a way out. Unless the elderly has neither family member nor friends to support them financially. Their parents brought us up painstakingly, so shouldn't they do their parts as filial children since the elderly can no longer support themselves? Yes, their needs would definitely be taken care of, but what about their emotional stability? one cannot guarantee the elderly sent there will feel glad about it.
Ultimately, it all brings down to the children's decision.

  19. Question 3.

No. People would take advantage of the situation if healthcare and nursing homes were free of charge. By making healthcare and nursing homes free of charge, it would encourage children to simply leave their parents there.
By taking care of the elderly, the nursing homes are providing us a service. So I feel that paying them is the least that we should do.
However, should they require financial help, then subsidies could be offered to them, depending on their circumstances.
