In my opinion, I feel that teachers can give students magazines related to the English language. We are currently given a magazine known as 'Present Perfect' every month. This is a good practice, as students are largely attracted to interesting means of learning the English language. Giving students magazines is a good way to arouse their interest in the language, as the articles in the magazines are fun and interesting. Magazines are generally good reading materials as they contain not only words, but pictures as well. This way, students will read a copy of 'Present Perfect' every month and hopefully, reading those articles can help to improve their standards. Besides giving out magazines monthly, teachers can give out excercises for students to practice. Grammer and vocabulary excercises would be good, as nowadays, we focus more on that in the syllabus. Language games like Scrabble can also be introduced. Students will definitely be more interested in learning English if the teacher uses new and fun methods to teach. Therefore, having the interest in learning English, produces better results in tests and exams.

Hi Melissa, I like your post. You post very interesting and viable methods which can help students a lot in becoming proficient in the language. I especially like your idea on allowing students to play Scrabble to master the language.:)
ReplyDeleteHi Melissa, I'm here to rebut you. Haha. Firstly, about the Present Perfect magazine. Yes, I agree with you that it is a good practice to get students to improve on their English, but the thing is, this is not the kind of magazine that students are attracted too. They're more likely to be attracted to magazines such as teenage etc. Everytime the Present Perfect magazine is given out, it's just dumped under the table or in the cupboards. Secondly, about playing Scrabble. True, it is an interesting and fun way to learn English. But, where are we going to get so many sets of Scrabble? And when are we going to play it? I don't think there will be enough time to play such a, well, 'long' game during class hours.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Rena I for one actually enjoy reading the Present Perfect magazine.
