How can we make Queenstownians better users of English?
To make Queenstownians better users of English, I feel that teachers, especially English Language teachers, should avoid using Singlish. They should speak proper English and avoid using Hokkien or Malay words. Adding words like "la", "leh", "ho" at the end of sentences should also be avoided. Workshops and campaigns for speaking good English should be frequently organised by the school for students from all levels. Having the English silent reading periods on Monday and Friday mornings is a great way to improve the English standard of Queenstownians. However, i doubt that this is an effective way since students can simply take out a book, turn to a page and just stare at it. Thus, I feel that some improvements should be done to this.
